Michael Pugh, president and chief operating officer of Carver Federal Savings Bank has announced a partnership with Union Settlement Association, the oldest and largest social services provider for residents of East Harlem.
Founded in 1895, Union Settlement Association is one of the largest settlement houses in New York, serving more than 10,000 people of all ages each year. Through innovative programs in education, health, job training, senior services, youth development, childcare, counseling and economic development, the association is dedicated to helping their neighbors realize their goals, while building the vitality and success of East Harlem.
Carver will provide $10,000 to help fund various programs, offer financial seminars to Union Settlement Association employees and members, as well as coordinate employee volunteer opportunities.
“Union Settlement is very pleased to partner with Carver Bank to further our mission of assisting and empowering the residents of East Harlem,” said David Nocenti, executive director of Union Settlement. “I thank Carver for their support and commitment to community-building in East Harlem.”
Celebrating its 65th anniversary as the largest African American and Caribbean American-operated bank in the country, Carver’s mission has been rooted in helping the underserved in local communities throughout the boroughs of New York City.
“Carver is pleased to be partnering with Union Settlement in order to support the East Harlem community. The partnership represents a special opportunity to serve East Harlem as we have recently celebrated the first anniversary of our newest branch located on 125th Street, inside Pathmark. We look forward to a long standing relationship with Union Settlement and the East Harlem community,” says Michael Pugh.
