Connecting People to Their Neighborhood | What We Do

Connecting People To Their Neighborhood

We engage our neighbors to stay connected, build relationships and advance change in our neighborhood and across the city.  The 10,000 residents who participate in our programs and events each year work together with our employees to make East Harlem a stronger, prouder and more supportive community where dreams are achieved every day.

What We Do

A community leader, Union Settlement has founded and helps to lead the East Harlem Community Alliance to empower our neighborhood and harness community resources in support of neighborhood development. The East Harlem Community Alliance unites over 150 local businesses, non-profits, religious organizations and government agencies for the betterment of East Harlem. Residents can use this resource to find employment and services.

Union Settlement works with community members to advance policies that address income inequality, access to education, unemployment and community development. Expanding beyond social service provision, Union Settlement works to reform social injustices experienced by low-income residents in East Harlem and throughout New York City.

“El Sitio Feliz” is a beautiful community garden located next to our main building on East 104th Street.  Established in 1992, this inviting public space includes a playground, amphitheater, community garden beds, and large vine-covered pavilion.  We hold events and performances for children and adults of all ages in the garden.
