Union Settlement celebrates nearly 125 years in East Harlem at annual benefit

New York City, NY – April 10, 2019 – Union Settlement, East Harlem’s oldest and largest social services provider, will celebrate 124 years of service in East Harlem at its annual spring benefit fundraising dinner at Guastavino’s in Manhattan on Tuesday, April 16. The 2019 Spring Benefit will convene hundreds of New York City’s business, civic and community leaders, as well as elected officials and honored guests, to support Union Settlement’s mission and service to the East Harlem community.

During the benefit, Union Settlement will honor Ruth Pachman, a partner at Kekst CNC and Chair of the Union Settlement Board of Directors; Angela Pinsky, the Executive Director of the Association for a Better New York, and her husband Seth Pinsky, an Executive Vice President of RXR. In addition, Union Settlement will also recognize corporate partner Neuberger Berman and law firm partner Schulte Roth & Zabel LLP for their ongoing support. Award-winning ABC News correspondent Deborah Roberts will serve as the event’s Master of Ceremonies.

The theme of this year’s benefit is “Celebrating Generations” and will highlight Union Settlement’s multi-generational services to East Harlem. The evening will also demonstrate East Harlem’s vibrant cultural diversity through the years by showcasing stories from the community and featuring music from local East Harlem musical group Annette A. Aguilar and the StringBeans.

“For nearly 125 years, Union Settlement has had the privilege of serving the wonderful East Harlem community by providing a range of services that empower New Yorkers of all ages with opportunities to better their lives,” said David Nocenti, Executive Director of Union Settlement. “We’re proud to celebrate the vibrancy and success of East Harlem this evening with so many friends and supporters, including our honorees who all exemplify leadership and commitment to serving communities in need.”

The Spring Benefit will be held on Tuesday, April 16, 2019, at 6:30 pm at Guastavino’s in New York City.

Honoring Leaders in Public and Community Service

Union Settlement will honor three inspiring and talented leaders whose vital contributions to the public and private sectors bring strength and vitality to our communities.

Ruth Pachman, Chair of Union Settlement’s Board of Directors and a Partner at Kekst CNC, counsels senior management teams and boards of directors on complex business issues with communications challenges. She has led high-profile engagements in the areas of shareholder activism, corporate restructuring, M&A, crisis work, and litigation support. In addition to her business experience, Ruth has devoted the past four years as Chair and nearly 25 as a Board member at Union Settlement.

Angela Pinsky, Executive Director of the Association for A Better New York, is dedicated to the promotion of New York City and civic dialogue through the expansion and evolution of ABNY’s membership. Prior to joining ABNY, Angela served as Senior Vice President for Management Services and Government Affairs at the Real Estate Board of New York (REBNY).

Seth Pinsky, Executive Vice President at RXR, is leading RXR’s efforts to invest in “emerging opportunities” in New York City and the surrounding tri-state region. Prior to joining RXR, Seth served as Director of Mayor Bloomberg’s Special Initiative for Rebuilding and Resiliency, which developed a $20 billion plan to help neighborhoods stricken by Hurricane Sandy to rebuild smarter and stronger and to protect the city from the likely impacts of climate change in coming decades.
