Dear Members of the Union Settlement Community,
We are pleased to announce the official launch celebrating our “Journey to 130 – Rejuvenate, Refine, Revitalize” Anniversary in recognition of 130 years of dedicated service to the East Harlem community. Join us on Monday, August 5, 2024, from 9:00 A.M. to 11:00 A.M. in our El Sitio Feliz Community Garden located at 237 East 104th Street “Union Settlement Way,” New York, NY 10029.
For well over a century, Union Settlement has demonstrated an unwavering commitment to empowering and uplifting the East Harlem community – over 15,000 residents – by providing vital education, wellness, and community-building programs and services. The launch of our “Journey to 130” event will highlight the enduring impact our Union Settlements work has had on the community.
Union Settlements’ President and CEO, Dr. Darlene Williams and Dawn Zappetti Chair – Board of Directors will welcome attendees followed by remarks from Manhattan Borough President Mark Levine, NYC Administration for Children’s Services Commissioner Jess Dannhauser, NYC Aging Commissioner Lorraine Cortes-Varzquez and others. The press conference will also feature a historical overview and highlight key milestones achieved by Union Settlement. The celebration will culminate in a ribbon-cutting ceremony, symbolizing the commencement of the anniversary celebrations. Community Leaders will offer insights into the organizations’ achievements and dynamic vision for the future.
Afterwards, attendees are invited to an open house where they can tour the renovated facilities and partake in networking reception.
The celebration will highlight the El Sitio Feliz Community Garden Beautification Project in collaboration with Ricardo Lopez & Associates, the newly renovated Gaylord White Community Center Gymnasium sponsored by the NYC Department of Youth & Community Development, and the unveiling of the Union Settlement Historical Timeline Art Gallery.
