Make a difference!
Help us empower East Harlem! Our ongoing volunteers enable us to provide programs to the East Harlem community. If you are interested in being a part of something great, please fill out the Volunteer Application Form.
We also accept one-time volunteers throughout the year. If you have a specific date or time of year in mind, email firstname.lastname@example.org and we’ll work with you to find a program or event you can donate your time to!
For a full list of opportunities with Union Settlement, please look at our Volunteer Brochure.
Corporate Volunteer Groups
Volunteering as a group gives employees in your organization the opportunity to interact with each other outside of work and meet employees from different departments, all while giving back to the community. For information on opportunities that are great for corporate volunteer groups, click here.
Volunteers can work in our garden, planting flowers or beautifying our playground; other volunteer groups have held job readiness workshops, others have coordinated and hosted parties for seniors at one of our four Senior Centers. For a full list of possible activities, please refer to the volunteer brochure. We also welcome your suggestions.
Interested in corporate or group volunteer opportunities? Please contact Cristina Valbuena-Castor, Manager of Special Events & Volunteer Programs, at (212) 348-5160 or email@example.com.
Intergenerational Reading Tutor, Elementary School
Union Settlement seeks older adults to tutor and mentor elementary-school children, grades K-3, who need help developing reading and language skills. Through the Union Settlement/OASIS Intergenerational Tutoring Program, you will meet with a child one-on-one to build his or her reading skills, self-esteem, and positive attitudes toward learning.
We provide volunteers with training and ongoing support meetings. No teaching experience is needed, just your commitment to helping young learners. The minimum time commitment is one hour, twice a week, through June 2017.
For more information please contact Amy-Sharee Smith, Program Director, at firstname.lastname@example.org or 212-828-6121.
Senior Center Workshops
Do you know how to sew, do yoga, or play an instrument? Why not share that knowledge at one of our four Senior Centers throughout East Harlem? Volunteer to hold an hour-long workshop any weekday at 9:30 am.
Don’t forget to complete your volunteer time sheet at the end of each month. If you have any questions while volunteering or need a Community Service letter, please contact us at email@example.com.
